The 4th ESO group of the academic route dedicated a session of the physics and chemistry subject to carrying out gas tests. We will use chemical reactions to make the gases ourselves (carbon dioxide, oxygen and hydrogen) and then take advantage of their characteristics to identify each of them:
- Carbon dioxide is denser than air, it displaces it and is able to extinguish a candle.
- Oxygen can rekindle the flame of a wooden stick, once we have extinguished it!
- Hydrogen is flammable and produces a small explosion inside the test tube, producing a characteristic "POP" sound and releasing a lot of heat.
Always wearing the appropriate safety measures, everyone demonstrated their prowess with the lab equipment.
